HELP RESCUE CAGED MOON BEARS

Please sign this petition to be sent to the Chinese, Vietnamese and Korean Governments.
Our bear rescue petition has already been forwarded to the Chinese government, but signatures are still being collected in petitions to be forwarded to the Vietnamese and South Korean governments.

Thousands of Moon Bears across China and Vietnam are imprisoned in cages no bigger than their own bodies enduring the agony of different bile extraction methods. Their suffering may continue for 20 years. Bear bile used in traditional Chinese medicine can easily be replaced by herbal or synthetic alternatives, which are cheaper and equally effective.
Due to excessive bear bile production bear farmers are constantly trying to find new products to add bear bile to, such as shampoos, beers and various tonics.

In South Korea it has been illegal to extract bile from living bears since 1992. However, there are still bear farms. Bears over the age of 10 can be legally slaughtered (usually in front of the customers) for their bile.

Please sign the petition and ask your friends and family members to sign it too.

This petition is submitted by the Finnish Support Group for Bear Rescue in Asia. The group supports Animals Asia Foundation that rescues bears from bear bile farms.

Dear Madam / Sir,
We thank the Chinese government for closing over 40 bear farms and releasing 500 bears into the care of Animals Asia. We are asking you to continue to promote the herbal alternatives to bear bile used in Chinese medicine.

The agreement between the Animals Asia Foundation and the Government departments of the China Wildlife Conservation Association and the Sichuan Forestry Department for the rescue of 500 endangered Moon Bears is a significant step in addressing the issue of bear farming and welfare of suffering bears.

We hope you will continue in the path of ending bear farming in China. We hope you will end bear farming in China as soon as possible, and encourage you to do so before the Beijing Olympics 2008.

Korea:

Dear Madam / Sir,
We thank the Korean government for banning bear bile extraction in bear farms. We are asking you to continue to promote the herbal alternatives to bear bile used in traditional medicine and for other purposes.

We hope you will continue in the path of ending bear farming in Korea. We hope that you will close all the remaining bear farms and free the farmed bears.

Vietnam:

Dear Madam / Sir,
We thank the Vietnamese government for making a commitment to close bear farms in stages and for signing an agreement with Animals Asia to rescue 200 bears from bear farms in Hanoi. We are asking you to continue to promote the herbal alternatives to bear bile used in traditional medicine.

The building of a sanctuary near Tam Dao is also a significant step in addressing the issue of bear farming in Vietnam

We hope you will continue down the path of ending bear farming in Vietnam. We hope you will make good on your commitment to end bear farming in Vietnam as soon as possible and free every farmed bear.
